THE MISO GOLDEN BATON RECOGNITION AWARD

The MISO Golden Baton Recognition Award is given annually by the board of directors of the Miami Symphony Orchestra to an outstanding member of our community in recognition for his/ her invaluable contribution for the arts and culture in South Florida. Initiated in 2014 the award has been given to Judit Drucker, Mark Rosenberg, Michael Spring, Eduardo Padrón and now Monty Trainer in 2021.

The “MISO Golden Baton Recognition Award ” annually honors an outstanding member of our community.

Monty Trainer, President

Coconut Grove Arts & Historical Association, Inc.

One of the most recognizable names in Miami, Monty Trainer has served as a community leader and civic activists for over 30 years. From establishing one of Miami’s most visited restaurants – appropriately named for the neighborhood visionary – to his active participation in almost every community organization, Trainer has in many ways become a symbol of the ‘Grove.

Trainer currently serves as president of the Coconut Grove Arts & Historical Association, the presenting organization of the nationally recognized Coconut Grove Arts Festival. The annual festival has often been named the top fine arts festival in the nation by Sunshine Artist Magazine, and remains among the top fine art event in the history of the magazine’s 200 Best.

Trainer has been honored as one of Miami-Dade’s Top Executives by the South Florida Business Journal and for his many years of service to the community by The Theodore Roosevelt Gibson Memorial Fund.

Trainer is a past chair of the New World School of the Arts and also serves on the Executive Board and serves on advisory committee for MDC Culinary Institute, and is Chairman of the Coconut Grove Chamber of Commerce, the Coconut Grove Business Improvement District (BID) and is a long term member of the Miami-Dade County Cultural Affairs Council.

He is the chairman for Miami Dade County Days and the Big Orange New Year’s Eve Celebration and chairman of the Greater Miami Host Committee that has brought many tourist events to Miami such as Miss Universe, Miss USA, and Miss Teens and was a founding member of the Greater Miami & Convention Bureau. Along with the city of Miami, the Host Committee has been instrumental in bringing previous Super Bowls to Miami.

Trainer is a past chairman of Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic. A University of Florida Bull Gator and a University of Miami Golden Cane, Trainer avidly supports both institutions with his alumni membership of Florida Blue Key and the UM Iron Arrow Society.

Known to everyone simply as ‘Monty,’ his list of past achievements and organization participation is lengthy. Yet, Monty’s humble nature and true love for the place he calls home is what maintains his high spirits and dedication to the community he serves.
