THE MISO GOLDEN BATON RECOGNITION AWARD

The MISO Golden Baton Recognition Award is given annually by the board of directors of the Miami Symphony Orchestra to an outstanding member of our community in recognition for his/ her invaluable contribution for the arts and culture in South Florida. Initiated in 2014 the award has been given to Judit Drucker, Mark Rosenberg, Michael Spring, Eduardo Padrón and now Emilio Estefan in 2018.

The Miami Symphony Orchestra (MISO) and its Music Director and Conductor Eduardo Marturet is proud to present its 2024 Golden Baton Award to John Paulson.

The “MISO Golden Baton Recognition Award ” annually honors an outstanding member of our community.

Initiated in 2014, the award has been given to Judit Drucker, Mark Rosenberg, Michael Spring, Eduardo Padrón, Emilio Estefan, Monty Trainer, and this year we are proud and honored to present the award to John Paulson, C.E.O. of Steinway & Sons. “We are so thrilled and proud to give the Golden Baton award to this important community leader and philanthropist, and especially to recognize him for his support of the arts.”

John Paulson Biography

John Paulson is the President and Portfolio Manager of Paulson Capital Inc. (“Paulson”), a private investment company. The firm was founded in 1994 and specializes in global event arbitrage, real estate, private equity, and credit strategies. The firm is headquartered in Palm Beach, Florida. Paulson has received numerous awards and accolades over its 30-year history including the Absolute Return’s awards for Management Firm of the Year, Best Arbitrage Fund, and Best Event Driven Fund, in addition to eight other Absolute Return awards.

Mr. Paulson received his Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School in 1980 with high distinction, as a Baker Scholar. He graduated from New York University’s Stern School of Business in 1978 as Valedictorian of his class. Prior to forming Paulson in 1994, John was a General Partner of Gruss Partners and a Managing Director in Mergers and Acquisitions at Bear Stearns.

In 2009, Mr. Paulson established the Paulson Family Foundation to provide support to education, science, health, culture, and the arts. It has provided significant funding to Harvard University, New York University, The Central Park Conservancy, the 92nd Street Y, the UJA-Federation of New York, Hebrew University, the Jerusalem Arts Campus, the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, the School of American Ballet, Success Academy Charter Schools and other institutions. Mr. Paulson previously served on the Boards of New York University; the Council of Foreign Relations; the Manhattan Institute; the Partnership for New York City; the Deans Advisory Board of the Harvard Business School; the Economic Club of NY; the Central Park Conservancy and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
