Recently appointed as the Assistant Conductor of the Asian Youth Orchestra (AYO), Sophie Mok’s conducting has been praised for its suppleness and preparedness for spontaneous occurrences.

 

In 2019, Mok won second prize at the International Conductor’s Competition held during the Deutsches Musikfest. Mok’s talents have been recognized on the international stage, having been selected as one of the finalists from 300 candidates in Maestro Riccardo Muti’s Italian Opera Academy with the Orchestra Giovanile Luigi Cherubini in 2022. She was also invited to participate in Le Domaine Forget Conducting Academy where she studied with Maestro Yannick Nézet-Séguin.

Currently, Mok serves as an Assistant Conductor of the Frost Symphony Orchestra. She has conducted a range of orchestras including the Orchestre Métropolitain, the Orchestre Symphonique de Québec, the Berlin Sinfonietta, the Orquesta de Cámara del Municipal de Santiago, the Eastern Festival Orchestra, the New Symphony Orchestra, the Romanian Youth Symphony Orchestra, Polizeiorchester Bayern, Symphonisches Blasorchester Volkach, and Bläserphilharmonie Aachen. Her upcoming engagements include conducting Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 with Hong Kong Baptist University Symphony Orchestra and touring with AYO to Europe and Asia.

Mok has had the opportunity to work with many renowned conductors such as Mikko Franck, Pinchas Zukerman, Douglas Bostock, Colin Metters, Alejandra Urrutia, José-Luis Novo, Grant Cooper, Larry Rachleff, and Donald Schleicher.

Originally from Hong Kong, Mok is currently pursuing her Artist Diploma in Conducting under the tutelage of Gerard Schwarz at the University of Miami Frost School of Music. She also holds a Master’s degree in Orchestral Conducting from the College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) and Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Oboe Performance from Hong Kong Baptist University and the University of Colorado at Boulder, respectively.
