The Miami Symphony Orchestra is Proud to Announce the Creation of “EL SISTEMA – MISO Music Education Program José A. Abreu”

Miami, August 24th, 2020 – The Miami Symphony Orchestra is proud to announce its new partnership with “El Sistema” from Venezuela, to create a new and innovative music educational platform never seen before in South Florida. Eduardo Marturet, Music Director and Conductor from MISO, and the family of the late and loved Maestro Jose Antonio Abreu, along with Eduardo Méndez, Executive Director of El Sistema from Venezuela, decided to name the program: “EL SISTEMA – MISO Music Education Program José A. Abreu” honoring the creator of one of the most innovative and effective learning programs in the history of music.

“No one better than Tarcisio Barreto to fill the position of Academic Director, based on his professional background with El Sistema in Venezuela. We are proud to have him and know this will be a huge success for the South Florida music system education” said Eduardo Marturet, Music Director and Conductor of MISO.

“We all grew with the teachings from el Maestro Jose Antonio Abreu. The idea is to bring the original and unique El Sistema music education program to kids in South Florida. We know what this entails and it will be very positive for them.“ said Tarcisio Barreto, Academic Director of the new program. 

Last Wednesday, the Miami Symphony Orchestra Music Director and Conductor Eduardo Marturet and Eduardo Mendez, Executive Director of El Sistema – Caracas, signed the agreement in a protocolar act via Zoom.
