Ollantay Velasquez

Ollantay Velásquez, a renowned Venezuelan Conductor and Violinist, became Assistant Conductor to Maestro Eduardo Marturet, Music Director & Conductor of the Miami Symphony Orchestra since 2023.

 

His work as Assistant Conductor has been essential in his artistic trajectory under Maestro Marturet’s tutelage, contributing to the growth and development of his career as Conductor. Velasquez has played a vital role in supporting the artistic vision of the Miami Symphony Orchestra. Among his responsibilities include: Assisting in rehearsals, performances, and educational programs, Collaborating on programming and artistic decisions, and supports all production needs.

 

Under Maestro Marturet’s mentorship, Ollantay Velásquez has honed his conducting skills, expanded his musical knowledge, and gained valuable experience in orchestra management. His work as Assistant Conductor has not only contributed to the mission of the Miami Symphony Orchestra but also accelerated his own growth as a conductor.

 

Recently, Ollantay was awarded at the 24th Latin Grammy Awards as Conductor in thecategory of Best Classical Music Album.

 

Throughout his career, he has held prominent positions such as Concertmaster in the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra, the Pacific International Festival Orchestra, Youth Orchestra of the Americas, among others. Additionally, he has had a distinguished chamber music career with the Millennium and Libertadores Quartets, which he founded and developed, performing concerts at prestigious venues like Carnegie Hall (USA), Beethoven House (Germany), and the Edinburgh Festival (Scotland).

 

As an orchestra conductor, he was the principal music director of the José Francisco Del Castillo Regional Symphony Orchestra and artistic director of the Simón Bolívar Chamber Orchestra in Caracas. He has also conducted renowned ensembles such as the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra, the Juan José Landaeta Symphony Orchestra, among others.
